June 2014
Polar Cycling
Expedition
Everyday 10,000 boomers walk away from their careers to begin a new life of retirement. Most of them are healthy, have time to spare, and wonder what’s next.
The 2014 Polar Cycling Expedition will chronicle the adventures of what two boomers decided to do with their new "redirected" life: pedal to the Arctic Ocean. Both will be pedaling a recumbent, one using a Bacchetta Giro 26 and the other one will be using a TerraTrike Expedition.
Thus, on
June 19th, 2014, two old guys will jump on their recumbents in
Billings, Montana and, after a stop at McDonald’s, will pedal 3,753 miles due
north past the Arctic Circle—all the way to where the road ends and the polar
bears begin at the Arctic Ocean.
No
sag. No support. Just two
old guys and their bikes.
Q: WHY go so far when there's already a WalMart in Montana?
A: Well, I ride for a cause. I change the world one family at a time by offering a hand-up, not a hand-out to some of the neediest people in the world. Our teams build relationships as well as homes among the Tswanna-speakers in black townships in South Africa.
Once built,
we provide job training, find markets for products, and charge affordable rent. Recipients, in turn, agree to “blend” at
least two HIV-AIDS affected (or infected) children into their own family. You
can get more information about this amazing enterprise at www.mosaicsa.org.
